Content blocks

Reusable email fragments for Engage broadcasts and automations.

What content blocks are for

Content blocks are reusable email fragments you author once and insert into Engage email messages — for example a shared footer with unsubscribe and preference links, legal copy, or a standard CTA strip.

They live under Engage → Content blocks. Each block has a name, optional description, and a slug. Content blocks are app-scoped (shared across test and live), not tied to one environment the way a sent broadcast is.

Content blocks are for email. Webhook and push messages do not use the content-block library.

Create and edit

  1. Open Engage → Content blocks.
  2. Choose New content block (requires Engage manage permission).
  3. Author the block in the email composer — the same visual / HTML tools as broadcast and automation email steps.
  4. Save. Use the list search to find blocks by name, slug, or description.

Open an existing row to edit. Row actions support duplicate and archive when your role allows.

Insert: snapshot vs linked

In an email Message step (broadcast) or email canvas step (automation), insert a content block from the composer. Choose how it lands in the message:

ModeWhat happens
SnapshotCopies the block’s content into the message at insert time. Later edits to the library block do not change that message.
LinkedKeeps a live reference to the library block. Editing the block can update every message that still references it.

Typical uses:

  • Footer with {{unsubscribe_url}} and {{preferences_url}} delivery merge tags — Rheo resolves those per recipient at send time. Rheo does not append a hidden footer after you compose.
  • Shared promo strip or legal notice across many campaigns (prefer linked when you want one edit to propagate)

Archiving a block does not strip snapshots already pasted into messages. Linked references keep a frozen copy when the live link is no longer available.

See Broadcasts — merge tags and Set up Engage — Preference center.
