Rheo Engage
Reach customers by email after they use your app — broadcasts, automations, and consent on your own provider.
What Engage is for
Rheo Engage is lifecycle email for people who already use your app. You write messages in Rheo, choose who should get them, and send through your Amazon SES, Resend, Postmark, or SendGrid account. Rheo does not send marketing email from Rheo-owned infrastructure.
Use Engage when you want to:
- Announce a launch or win-back offer to everyone who opted in
- Follow up after an in-app event (for example a trial start or onboarding completion)
- Branch people into different paths based on attributes, segments, or what they did next
- Stay within marketing consent, topics (when enabled), and deliverability health
This is separate from product email for workspace teammates (Account → Personal) and from email you collect inside an onboarding flow. Engage is outbound lifecycle mail to Customers.
Where it lives in the dashboard
Under each app, the Engage sidebar group includes:
| Page | Use it for |
|---|---|
| Overview | Recent sends, open/click rates, and deliverability signals |
| Broadcasts | One-shot campaigns you draft, schedule, or send now |
| Automations | Branching workflows that enroll people over time |
| Templates | Reusable starters you copy into a broadcast or automation email |
Customers → Segments defines audiences for Broadcasts and Automations. App settings → Engage settings covers your provider, frequency cap, quiet hours, marketing topics, and the preference center.
How the pieces fit
- Connect a provider and verify your sending identity so Rheo can send on your behalf. See Set up Engage.
- Collect email and consent on each Customer (from the app via identify, CSV import, or the preference center).
- Optionally build Segments so you target the right people.
- Create a Broadcast for a one-time send, or an Automation for a multi-step journey. See Broadcasts and Automations.
Who can receive marketing email
Rheo only sends a marketing message when all of these are true:
- The customer has an email address
- Global email marketing consent is granted
- If marketing topics mode is on: the message’s topic is also granted
- The address is not suppressed (hard bounce, complaint, or unsubscribe)
Consent values are granted, denied, or unknown. Unknown is not enough to send.
Topics mode is off by default. Turn it on under App settings → Engage settings → Marketing consent.
Environments
Engage respects the same test / live environment selector used elsewhere in the app. Use test while you are still wiring the provider and reviewing copy. Test-environment sends can be limited to a test destination allowlist under Frequency Cap settings.
